Constellations with range and IS-categories

چکیده

Constellations are asymmetric generalisations of categories. Although they not required to possess a notion range, many natural examples do. These include commonly occurring constellations related concrete categories (since model surjective morphisms), and also others arising from quite different sources, including well-studied classes semigroups . We show how with well-behaved range operation nothing but ordered restrictions. characterise abstractly those that canonical extensions as so-called IS-categories. Such contain distinguished subcategories insertions (which monomorphisms) surjections (in general the epimorphisms) such each morphism admits unique factorisation into surjection followed by an insertion. Most familiar IS-categories, we some well-known properties these arise fact For appropriate choices morphisms in each, category IS-categories is shown be equivalent range.

Data Structures for Range Aggregation by Categories

We solve instances of a general class of problems defined as follows: Preprocess a set S of possibly weighted colored geometric objects (e.g. points/orthogonal segments/rectangles) in R, d ≥ 1 such that given a query orthogonal range q, we can report efficiently for each distinct color c of the points in S∩q, the tuple < c,F(c) > where F(c) is a function (e.g. weighted sum, bounding box etc.) o...

Data Structures for Range-Aggregation over Categories

We solve instances of a general class of problems defined as follows: Preprocess a set S of possibly weighted colored geometric objects (e.g. points/orthogonal segments/rectangles) in IR, d ≥ 1 such that given a query orthogonal range q (e.g. hyperbox/point), we can report efficiently for each distinct color c of the points in S ∩ q, the tuple 〈 c, F(c) 〉 where F(c) is a function (e.g. weighted...

Categories and Range Effects in Human Spatial Memory

After learning a particular target stimulus, such as a location, humans' judgments of whether a particular stimulus is the target or not is affected by the range of stimuli presented on tests. In such frequently found range effects, the peak of "yes" responses shifts toward the middle of the range of tested stimuli. Humans also code both the metric value and categorical information regarding a ...

A Simple Formula for the Series of Constellations and Quasi-constellations with Boundaries

We obtain a very simple formula for the generating function of bipartite (resp. quasi-bipartite) planar maps with boundaries (holes) of prescribed lengths, which generalizes certain expressions obtained by Eynard in a book to appear. The formula is derived from a bijection due to Bouttier, Di Francesco and Guitter combined with a process (reminiscent of a construction of Pitman) of aggregating ...
